Self-exploration and collaboration
In this chapter we explore current self-reflexive methodologies for research and posit joint working as a tool for developing deeper understanding of the role of the self. We suggest that scrutiny of the self when situated within the research process enables greater awareness of the importance of immediacy and context. In particular, we draw attention to the nuanced factors involved in the collaborative creation of new knowledge. As such, we position the self as a crucial component of self-reflexive research engagement and identify it as a critical contributory factor when making a claim to new knowledge.
