Impact of Simulated Gastric Acid on the Color Change of Resin-nanoceramic and PEEK

Objective: The objective of the present investigation was to assess the impact of simulated gastric acid on the alteration of color in resin nanoceramic and PEEK materials. Materials and methods: eighteen disc-shaped samples were cut by using a low speed isomet diamond saw and divided into two equal groups (n=9) according to the material type: Group C: resin nanoceramic, Group P: PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) veneered with indirect high impact polymer composite (HIPC. The samples were immersed in simulated gastric acid (HCl, pH 1.2) for 96 hours at 37 °C in an incubator. Color change (ΔE) was measured using spectrophotometer. Results: The highest color change (ΔE) mean value was recorded in group P (8.74±0.19) comparing to group C (5.76±0.08) after 96 hours gastric acid immersion, with p-value (p<0.05). Conclusion: Stability of color in both Cerasmart and PEEK were affected by acidic oral environment. PEEK has significant higher color changes than Cerasmart.
