The Role and Challenge of Youth for SDGs Point 6: Case Study of Banyu Bening Community Rainwater School Yogyakarta

Groundwater, which is the favourite source for most residents, has a negative impact on future life and requires another source as an alternative. Rainwater, which has been successfully processed by the Banyu Bening Community of Yogyakarta, could be one such alternative. This research aims to examine the role and challenges of young people in developing this rainwater invention. This research is mixed method research by mixing descriptive data, interviews with surveys conducted with quantitative data through a google form questionnaire. The interview was conducted directly with the head of Banyu Bening Community Yogyakarta, and the survey was aimed at young people aged 18-30 years old. As a result, this research shows that young people have a significant role in the policy- making process, especially for advocacy through social media. However, some challenges are still faced such as 80.8% of young people want to contribute to water issues, however, they do not know what they can do. As a solution, the author offers a solution with the government organizing counselling or youth empowerment programs, training and increasing youth participation in the policy-making process. This research contributes to enriching the literature on water issues and can be used as a reference for policy-making processes related to water issues.
