The impact of inlet and obstacle conditions on the indoor environment with impinging jet ventilation system
The impinging jet ventilation system (IJV) is drawing people’s attention due to its high ventilation effectiveness and applicability to various situations. In IJV, the fresh air is supplied downward and moves along the floor until it reaches the heat and contaminant source; finally, it is exhausted around the ceiling. Because of this ventilation strategy, temperature and contaminant concentration profiles stratify vertically, so that the effectiveness of temperature and ventilation is kept high within the occupied zone. However, in practice, there can be some obstacles on the floor that might have some impact on the indoor environment. To investigate this impact, the experiments were conducted in a full-scale experimental chamber under cooling conditions in summer. To simulate a small office room, one supply inlet duct, four seated human simulators and four PC simulators are distributed within the room as heat sources. The human simulators released the contaminant from their mouth as well. The thermal environment and ventilation effectiveness were evaluated, and it was shown that the effect of cabinet on the indoor environment differed depending on the supply conditions.
