Risks of Monoculture and Intercropping Red Chili Farming in Rice Fields in Kapanewon Galur, Kulon Progo Regency
This study aims to determine the total cost, revenue, income, profit, and risk of red chili farming in rice fields in Kapanewon Galur, Kulon Progo Regency. Location determination was done intentionally (purposive method). Sampling was done using a census technique with a total of 55 red chili farmers. Data was analyzed using cost, revenue, income, profit, and risk analysis based on the Coefficient of Variation. Based on the results of the study, the costs, revenues and income in the red chili farmer intercropping system were greater than the intercropping system, while for profit, the monoculture planting system was greater than the intercropping system. The level of risk in the cost of red chili farming with a monoculture planting system is higher than the intercropping system, while the risk in income is the opposite. The study not only advances the understanding of the risks in horticultural systems between monoculture and intercropping cropping systems but also offers practical guidance to improve agricultural decision-making related to those cropping systems. These findings can inform local governments and extension services to develop training programs aimed at farmers, in order to implement the correct use of inputs to minimize cost risks in the tumpeng sari planting system. In addition, this study provides a framework to design recommendations for monoculture planting systems because based on the results of the study, this system has the opportunity to get higher profits due to lower input costs.
