Onderzoek naar de kernstructuur van zilverisotopen via laserspectroscopie en experimentele trends in kernmomenten onder Z = 50

Understanding the inner workings of a nucleus is a long-standing question in nuclear physics. Often, nuclei close to the so-called magic numbers are investigated to probe the behaviour of the single valence nucleon. Nuclei further away from magic numbers have received increased attention in recent years due to the advancement of nuclear theory and the increasing sensitivity in experiments, probing the evolution of nuclear structure when moving away from these magic numbers. This manuscript contributes by presenting the nuclear electromagnetic properties and spins of 100–123Ag, three protons away from 'magic' Z = 50, from laser spectroscopy experiments at CRIS and IGISOL. These results are compared to empirical estimates and nuclear DFT calculations on silver and its neighbouring odd-proton elements between Z = 39 – 49, providing insight into the nuclear configuration of these elements. Furthermore, ab initio electronic structure calculations are performed to reevaluate the current literature on the silver electromagnetic properties and isolate the sizeable hyperfine anomaly in silver, which is essential to compare silver isotopes to their neighbouring elements. Additionally, the latter allowed determining the absolute BW contribution in H-like silver for the first time for short-lived nuclei, offering a probe into the evolution of the nuclear magnetisation distribution in an isotopic chain. Technical developments related to the decay spectroscopy station at CRIS are presented in this manuscript. The working and commissioning of the tape system are discussed, together with the proof-of-principle during an experimental campaign on neutron-rich zinc. The design of the adapted alpha detection and the new beta detection system is shown. These upgrades are important to increase the sensitivity of CRIS for short-lived nuclei, and to allow performing decay spectroscopy on isomerically purified beams.
