De remediatie van nieuws op sociale media

Over the past two decades, social media have transformed into dominant platforms for news consumption. In response to this shift, and under pressure to maintain relevant and competitive, news organizations have extended their presence across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok. As a result, the journalistic process no longer concludes with the publication of a story in a newspaper or on a news website. Instead, news continues to circulate, flow, and transform as it enters the dynamic environments of social media. Each of these social media platforms is shaped by its own logic, affordances, and audience expectations. News content, therefore, cannot simply be copy-pasted from one channel to another; it must be strategically tailored to fit the specific demands of each medium. This dissertation proposes that the concept of remediation offers a valuable lens for understanding these transformations. Originally coined to understand how digital media rework older forms, remediation provides insight into how journalistic content is transformed as it moves across platforms. By examining the decisions and motivations of social media editors, this study shed light on how news is continuously reshaped in the platform age.
