On the Reality of Imaginary Space: A Mathematical-Philosophical Inquiry

This paper investigates the possibility that imaginary space, long treated as a purely mathematical construct, may correspond to an ontologically real dimension. Drawing analogies from the history of infinity (once an abstract mathematical sym- bol, later encountered as a physical singularity in black holes and the Big Bang), we argue that imaginary numbers may similarly point to hidden dimensions of reality. Through a combined approach of mathematics, physics, and philosophy, we explore the conceptual foundations and implications of such a claim.

Abstract

This paper investigates the possibility that imaginary space, long treated as a purely mathematical construct, may correspond to an ontologically real dimension. Drawing analogies from the history of infinity (once an abstract mathematical sym- bol, later encountered as a physical singularity in black holes and the Big Bang), we argue that imaginary numbers may similarly point to hidden dimensions of reality. Through a combined approach of mathematics, physics, and philosophy, we explore the conceptual foundations and implications of such a claim.
