Proceedings of the international workshop on AI systems for the environment (AISE-2025)
Welcome to the first edition of AISE, the International Workshop on AI Systems for the Environment. AISE-2025 is dedicated to advancing the role of artificial intelligence and intelligent agent technologies in tackling pressing environmental and sustainability challenges. As societies face urgent issues such as renewable energy integration, circular economy transitions, biodiversity conservation, and the environmental impact of AI itself, the need for scalable and transparent AI-driven solutions has never been greater. This workshop provides a platform for researchers and practitioners to present cutting-edge work at the intersection of AI and sustainability. With a focus on agent-based modelling, reinforcement learning, optimisation, robotics, and algorithmic game theory, AISE explores how intelligent systems can contribute to more sustainable operations, energy management, transportation, and ecosystem protection.

AISE 2025 features two sessions: AI Methods for Environmental Monitoring and Resource Management, and AI-Driven Optimisation and Sustainable Practices. These sessions highlight both methodological advances and applied case studies, reflecting the diverse ways in which AI can inform and improve environmental decision-making. The program also includes a keynote by Dr. Stefanie Kunkel (Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) at GFZ Helmholtz Centre Potsdam), offering critical insights into the promises and challenges of “AI for sustainability.”

Through this workshop, we aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, encourage collaboration, and inspire innovative approaches that ensure AI contributes meaningfully to the sustainability transition.

Further details about AISE-2025 are available at: https://sites.google.com/view/aise25
