Unstructured Spare Time
Unstructured spare time refers to the hours spent on leisure activities for relaxation or entertainment without a set schedule or formal structure. These activities can include socialising with friends, gaming, internet browsing, watching television, and other informal pastimes. Research has linked prolonged unstructured spare time to a range of negative developmental outcomes, including lower academic performance, challenges in identity formation, engagement in health-risk behaviours, and involvement in deviant activities. In today’s digital landscape, unstructured digital time has been associated with online addiction, exposure to harmful content, and cyberbullying.
