Ontwikkeling en eigenschappen van alkaligeactiveerde composieten met gerecycleerd betonpoeder
The cement industry remains one of the largest contributors to anthropogenic CO2 emissions, while the annual generation of construction and demolition waste (CDW) continuously increases across the world. During the processing of end-of-life concrete into recycled concrete aggregates, a very fine fraction, often called recycled concrete powder (RCP). The valorisation of RCP is produced, especially in high value-added applications is particularly challenging due to its low reactivity, high water demand, and dust-related handling problems. Nevertheless, its high amount and aluminosilicate content makes RCP a promising alternative precursor for developing alkali-activated binder (AAB), provided that its drawbacks can be effectively mitigated. This dissertation therefore explores the development of alkali-activated composites with RCP as precursor, and seeks to establish fundamental links between RCP activation methods, mixture design, and reaction mechanisms of AAB with RCP, fracture processes of AA mortars when reinforced with basalt fibres (BF), and practical valorisation of developed material.
