Perth through the student eye: planning for biodiversity and more than human understandings and experiences of place

Perth sits within the South Western Australian biodiversity hotspot and correspondingly its planning and design has significantly more impact upon the resident biodiversity within its bounds. While the conceptualisation of the hotspot narrative has arguably elevated the plight of its biodiversity and offer a useful tool in framing discourse, there remains a paucity of ways to reconsider and best articulate the narrative of a sustainable and resilient urban environment that includes the coexistence of people, place and ecology. Through the eyes and project work of the UWA Landscape Architecture student cohort this presentation will provide an overview of a range of creative, exciting and innovative projective futures – specific design actions, projects and illustrations – that articulate the nature of human connection with this specific place into the future.
