Inzicht in de structuur en functie-relatie op de achillespeesstammen om een optimale belasting tijdens herstel van achillespeesaandoeningen te verbeteren

This PhD project focuses on the development and validation of a finite element model for tendon loading to be measured during rehabilitation exercises. There is strong evidence for mechanical and morphological changes properties in the pathological Achilles tendon and those changes might bring about mechanical load adaptations to the tendon. It is critical that rehabilitation exercises place an adequate load in the tendon despite the changed properties. This PhD aims to use simulations to design a rehabilitation protocol that provides the optimal stimulus for tendon regeneration and avoids overload to the tendon. This project aims to develop and validate a workflow that can simulate the optimal loading in the tendon based on a non-invasive characterization of tendon properties.
