Janus-membraan voor gelijktijdige waterzuivering en stroomopwekking in membraandestillatie
This PhD project explores a novel strategy for simultaneous water purification and electricity generation based on membrane distillation (MD). In response to growing global water and energy challenges, the research focuses on integrating hydrovoltaic principles into MD systems by developing conductive Janus membranes. These membranes are designed to not only enhance water vapor transport but also harvest electricity from water-material interactions during the separation process. The research covers concept validation, material development, and performance evaluation under realistic and challenging conditions, including saline and oil-contaminated water. This work establishes a foundation for multifunctional membrane systems that align with the water-energy nexus and contribute to sustainable resource management.
