The Morphology of Biochar Aimed at its Potential Application as an Electrode Material (Batteries, Supercapacitors)

This study investigates the properties and potential applications of biochar derived from the pyrolysis of wooden pellets. A detailed physicochemical characterization was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size distribution analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and elemental analysis. To enhance the surface functionality and introduce oxygen-containing groups that improve hydrophilicity and reactivity, the biochar was chemically modified through oxidation with 30% hydrogen peroxide. Subsequently, the oxidized biochar was doped with graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) to improve its photocatalytic performance and adsorption capacity, leveraging the synergistic interaction between the two materials. The resulting composites were prepared for further use in subsequent research focused on energy-related applications.
