Artificial Intelligence and Scholarly Communication
Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly will soon enough be widely implemented throughout academia. It is fundamentally altering scholarly communication across the research lifecycle. This paper analyzes AI's influence on hypothesis generation, research execution, writing, publishing, reading, evaluation, and dissemination. Both benefits—such as increased efficiency, novel insights, and broader access—and risks—including bias, data privacy concerns, originality, quality control, and ethical challenges—are examined. The study demonstrates how AI transforms research and identifies associated challenges, including algorithmic bias, over-reliance, and misinformation. Strategies for mitigation are proposed. The analysis emphasizes the necessity of robust human oversight, enhanced security, advanced plagiarism detection, clear regulatory frameworks, ongoing staff training, and diverse training data. The findings indicate that responsible AI integration in scholarly communication requires explicit policies, active stakeholder engagement, and steadfast commitments to integrity, fairness, and the advancement of scientific research.
