Landscape Design Study of Ecological Floating Islands Composing Floating Parks

This study investigates the design and practical application of ecological floating islands within floating parks, with the aim of coping with the reduction of green space due to rapid urban expansion and the possible expansion of urban water bodies due to sea level rise. The landscape gardening method and literature analysis method are mainly adopted. The concept and historical background of floating island parks are first explored through preliminary literature study, and then the classification, function, plant selection, spatial layout and construction process of ecological floating islands are analyzed in depth. Then a comprehensive floating island system is designed by utilizing the landscape gardening method and following the basic design principles of ecological floating islands. The proposed design is inspired by the form of fish, creating a naturalistic arrangement with interwoven elements of varying scales.By integrating a rest platform with the ecological floating island, the structure not only provides a space for public recreation and relaxation but also supports aquatic vegetation capable of purifying the surrounding water. Therefore, the eco-floating island proposed in this study offers both aesthetic and recreational benefits while contributing to ecological improvement, making it highly suitable for implementation in rapidly urbanizing areas.
