Mandibular schwannoma: A rare case of root-resorbing interosseous tumour

Schwannomas are rare mesenchymal tumours derived from Schwann cells, typically found in soft tissues with few cases of mandibular interosseous manifestation. A 56-year-old male presented with incidental finding of radiolucency of the right mandible. An. Orthopantomogram (OPG) revealed a well-circumscribed, radiolucent lesion extending from the mental foramen to the lingula, with cortical expansion and root resorption of teeth. Despite originating from the Schwann cells of the right inferior dental nerve (IDN), there was no preoperative paraesthesia or hypoesthesia. The tumour was removed via intraoral approach, and histopathology confirmed Schwannoma-defining Antoni A and B patterns, Verocay bodies, and diffuse S-100 positivity. This case highlights the diagnostic and treatment challenges intraosseous schwannomas present.
