Testing Unified Substrate Theory through Solar Flare Statistics: A 30σ Harmonic Signature in H-Alpha Flare Durations
Analysis of 33,414 H-alpha solar flare durations from 2000–2010 reveals extremely strong harmonic structure in the logarithmic duration distribution at two a priori Unified Substrate Theory (UST) frequencies, β = 4 and β = 27.57. Using Rayleigh circular statistics relative to a smooth lognormal null model, these harmonics correspond to formal significances of ≈18σ and ≈30σ, respectively, with Monte Carlo testing confirming robustness and year-by-year stability across the solar cycle. The results demonstrate that flare durations contain discrete-scale modulation far exceeding expectations from smooth statistical behaviour, aligning with UST’s predicted harmonic ladder. Although descriptive rather than predictive, identification of this harmonic structure establishes a foundational requirement for any future UST-based predictive framework in solar eruptive phenomena.
