Optimizing Fisheries Management for Invasive Fish Control in Lake Batur, Bali Island

The invasive Midas Cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) presents a significant management challenge in Lake Batur, Bali Island, threatening its biodiversity and the livelihoods of the local community. This paper proposes an optimized management framework by integrating a bio-ecological approach with a predictive multispecies competition model. The methodology uses the bio- ecological approach to provide a scientific foundation for understanding the species' life cycle, diet, and interactions, while the competition model simulates population dynamics to assess its competitive advantage. The model confirms the Midas Cichlid's dominance, revealing a higher intrinsic growth rate (r=0.092) and carrying capacity (K=64.119 tons) compared to other species. Based on these findings, a multi-faceted strategy is recommended, encompassing: enhanced mass capture with economic incentives, cautious exploration of biological control, habitat modification, and strengthened regulatory frameworks with community empowerment. While acknowledging implementation challenges such as funding and multi-stakeholder coordination, this data-driven framework provides a holistic pathway to restore the lake's ecological integrity and ensure community well-being.
