Factors Influencing the Decision to Adopt Organic Rice Farming in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia
The development of organic rice farming in Bantul Regency remains limited despite its potential environmental and economic benefits. Many farmers are hesitant to shift from conventional to organic systems due to limited knowledge and awareness. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing farmers’ decisions to adopt organic rice farming in Bantul Regency. The research was conducted between September and October 2024, involving 120 farmers (60 organic and 60 non-organic) selected through multistage random sampling. A binary logistic regression model was employed to assess the influence of internal factors (age, education, farming experience, land size, and income) and external factors (social environment, economic environment, and innovation characteristics). The results reveal that farming experience and land size negatively affect adoption decisions, whereas social environment and innovation characteristics positively and significantly influence adoption. Age, education, income, and economic environment showed no significant effect. Probability analysis indicates that farmers have a 69% likelihood of continuing organic rice farming, though most remain semi-organic. The findings imply that enhancing social support, farmer group involvement, and positive innovation perceptions are essential for promoting sustainable organic rice farming. Policymakers should strengthen institutional support and design targeted programs to expand organic adoption in Bantul Regency.
