Effect of ball-milling on the thermal properties of MgH

The preliminary study examined how ball milling influenced the thermal behavior of MgH₂/AlCrNiZrVNb materials to improve their energy storage potential. Both HEA and MgH₂ crystalline structures were observed, confirming that the material integrity was maintained during ball milling. The unmilled sample displayed highly crystalline structures with sharp, well-defined peaks, whereas the ball-milled samples showed broader peaks. This broadening indicates increased lattice strain, decreased crystallite size, and grain refinement resulting from ball milling, which can improve hydrogen storage kinetics. These findings highlight the potential of using ball milling to synthesize MgH2 with HEA catalysts, advancing hydrogen storage technology for energy systems.
