Photo-induced reversible change in superconductivity and observation of Planckian dissipation in Bi
We demonstrate that the superconducting properties can be controlled by photoexcitation in $\mathrm {Bi_{2}}\mathrm {Sr_{2}}\mathrm {Ca_{2}}\mathrm {Cu_{3}}\mathrm {O}_{10+\delta }$ (Bi-2223). It is realized that steady-state photoexcitation converts $\mathrm {Cu^{2+}}$ ions to spinless $\mathrm {Cu^{1+}}$ ions, which lowers the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, by suppressing superfluid density. This enables the achievement of a wide range of Tc under controlled exposure of photoexcitation. We observe robust Planckian dissipation in under- and optimally-doped Bi-2223 with photoexcitation over a wide range of Tc achieved with photoexcitation. Our investigations thus open a window for extensive study of temperature-induced changes in superconducting properties without altering the intrinsic properties of the system through chemical doping, providing a unique platform for future applications.
