Analysis of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Industrial Processes in Ecuador
This study examines greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Ecuador’s industrial processes sector to identify critical emission sources and assess existing mitigation strategies. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating qualitative secondary data analysis with statistical emissions data. Additionally, key stakeholders were interviewed to enhance the diagnostic process and policy proposal development. Findings indicate that industrial processes contribute less than 5% of national GHG emissions annually, with the cement industry as the leading emitter, accounting for 83.56% in 2018. Mitigation opportunities include institutional strengthening, policy updates, and improved coordination between industrial sectors and regulatory entities.
