Role of serious leisure perspective in Division 1 college football
College football is a huge part of American culture and there are many implications that can come with it. Coaches are constantly faced with pressure to succeed and to win, so they are always looking for ways to improve. Coaches are tasked with building a positive culture, fostering team cohesion, and keeping their players motivated. This task can be more difficult than ever because of the transfer portal and newly installed NIL rules. As college football has evolved, so has the focus of athletics. The focus is on culture and player experience, now more than ever. This research investigates football players at Oklahoma State University identifying their alignment with the six tenets of the Serious Leisure Perspective. The Mann-Whitney test is used to compare the means of different groups throughout the team. The research gives coaches new information and tools to help develop players and to create the best team culture and player experience possible.
