The Impact of Chess Training on Problem-Solving Skills in Children: Theoretical and Practical Approach
This study explores how systematic chess training contributes to the development of problem-solving skills in primary school children. Drawing on theoretical frameworks of cognitive development, existing empirical research, and more than eleven years of the author’s coaching experience, the paper examines how chess enhances analytical thinking, attention control, decision-making, and metacognitive awareness. The findings highlight that regular practice with tactical exercises improves children’s ability to evaluate alternatives, avoid impulsive decisions, and maintain focus throughout complex tasks. The study concludes that chess can serve as an effective educational tool for strengthening core cognitive and problem-solving abilities in young learners.
