Assessment of Changes in Extreme Daily Precipitation in Poland Based on the Kołobrzeg Station (1960-1965 vs 2018-2019) Using the k Coefficient

Abstract This article presents an analysis of changes in extreme daily precipitation for the Kołobrzegmeteorological station (IMGW) based on two time periods: the reference period 1960–1965 and themodern period 2018–2019. A dimensionless parameter, the k coefficient, was used to quantify therelative increase in extreme precipitation between these periods. Calculations were performed usingraw daily precipitation data obtained from IMGW. The results indicate an increase of 14.5% in maximumdaily precipitation, confirming the intensification of heavy‑rainfall events under ongoing climatechange. A methodological framework for applying the k coefficient in urban hydrology and stormwatersystem design is also presented. [email protected]
