Representation to Resistance: Reclaiming Women's Voices in Literature
Abstract: The present paper is an analysis of representation of women in literary endeavours and the resistance to stereotypical roles by the feminist writers from the nineteenth century to the contemporary period. It brings to forth the efforts of female characters, authors, and narrators who try to subvert patriarchal structures and reclaim narrative, linguistic, and cultural agency. It will touch to major feminist and postcolonial frameworks explored through the articulations of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper, Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, Toni Morrison’s Beloved, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s We Should All Be Feminists. The literary artefacts of these writes do not merely confined to fictional worlds; but, they also challenge the ideological frameworks that confine them, their space and their creativity.
