Chemotherapy-related Endogenic Endophthalmitis
This case report presents a 44-year-old woman with hepatocellular carcinoma who developed fungal endogenous endophthalmitis following intravenous chemotherapy. She presented with gradual deterioration of vision. Fundus examination and optical coherence tomography revealed preretinal exudates in the macular region. On the vitreous tap, fungal hyphae were seen. The patient was treated with intravitreal antifungals which lead to significant visual improvement. The case underscores the importance of prompt diagnosis and management of endogenous endophthalmitis, particularly in immunocompromised patients to prevent irreversible loss of vision. Risk factors include diabetes, immunosuppression, and recent hospitalizations.
