Conversion Therapy by Stealth? A Lived‑Experience Essay on England's New Model of Gender Care
This essay examines the ethical and clinical implications of England’s new NHS model for gender care for children and young people, introduced following the Cass Review. Written from the perspective of an independent researcher with lived experience as a transgender male who transitioned in adolescence, the piece argues that restricting puberty blockers to clinical trials, tightening access to gender‑affirming hormones, and prioritising psychosocial interventions over timely medical care creates harm akin to conversion therapy. The essay combines personal testimony with policy analysis and ethical critique, concluding with recommendations for differentiated care pathways and the inclusion of lived experience in governance.
