Product-Assisted Growth: The Hybrid Strategy for Complex SaaS Products

Product-Assisted Growth (PAG) is a hybrid go-to-market strategy that integrates product-led adoption mechanisms with data-driven human intervention to support the scaling of complex B2B SaaS products. This article consolidates the theoretical foundations of PAG through a systematic review of academic and industry literature published between 2019 and 2025, with additional benchmarking data from 847 SaaS companies. The study demonstrates that while pure product-led growth offers scalability and cost efficiency, it often fails in enterprise contexts due to technical implementation challenges, organizational complexity, and regulatory requirements. PAG addresses these limitations by allocating sales and success resources only when behavioral, intent, and firmographic signals indicate high-value opportunities. The model contributes to SaaS commercialization theory by synthesizing transaction cost economics and resource-based view perspectives, positioning PAG as a necessary evolution for high-complexity digital products requiring both autonomy and expert guidance throughout the customer journey.
