The Ihsan Agile Guide: Embedding Islamic Values in Agile Delivery
Ihsan Agile overlays existing Agile methods (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) with principles drawn from the Qur'an and Sunnah. It transforms Agile delivery practices into a form of 'ibādah (worship) by embedding niyyah (intention), iḥsān (excellence with God-consciousness), and shūrā (consultation) into team workflows and organisational practices. This framework helps Muslim-led teams align daily operational decisions with Islamic values. Agile delivery involves hundreds of micro-decisions such as feature prioritisation, technical debt management, accessibility standards, sustainable pace, and stakeholder consultation, where ethical considerations may remain implicit rather than actively integrated. Ihsan Agile provides practical mechanisms through its Three Pillars, Five Core Principles, and the Ihsan Agile Facilitator role to embed Islamic values into these workflows. Version 1.0 includes implementation guidance for Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe, concrete worked scenarios, and starter checklists for immediate adoption.
