MULTI-STAKEHOLDER PERCEPTION ON THE CHALLENGES FOR STRENGTHENING SOCIOBIODIVERSE PRODUCTIVE CHAINS IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON

This article identifies and analyzes the main obstacles that curtailed the effectiveness of policies oriented toward the strengthening of sociobiodiversity productive chains in the Brazilian Amazon within the scope of the Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon (PPCDAm). It draws on semi-structured interviews with policymakers, NGOs and rural producers in Brasília-DF, Redenção-PA, and Araguaína-TO. The main challenges identified were low market prices, limited local demand, strangling competition by vested interests in other activities, high seasonality, small scalability, low liquidity, extenuating physical effort, low mechanization, lack of industrial infrastructure, insufficient funding, and the short-term project funding logic of the Amazon Fund.
