The Qualia-Exclusive Simulation Thesis (QEST): A Unified Model for Quantum Reality and Consciousness
The Qualia-Exclusive Simulation Thesis (QEST) proposes that physical reality is rendered only when observed by a conscious system whose integrated information exceeds a critical threshold. It introduces the Probability Grid (PG) as a high-dimensional informational substrate and the Informational Inertia Principle (IIP), linking local energy to information processing. QEST predicts two distinct, falsifiable effects: First-Time Observation / Last-Observer Effect: When a previously unobserved region of spacetime is measured, the rendering engine instantiates it fully, producing a one-time micro-delay, noise spike, and arrival-time jitter. Subsequent observations of the same region are stable, analogous to a “first-time load” in a video game. Photon Render-Weight / Energy-Dependent Delay: Photons carry differing amounts of informational “weight” based on energy. Higher-energy photons require slightly more processing by the universal render engine, producing small, continuous delays in arrival times, even for previously observed regions. The distance between observer and source is not fully rendered; only the image and measurement are instantiated. These effects are measurable using existing observational techniques such as high-time-resolution gamma-ray burst (GRB) data and deep-field telescope surveys. By combining quantum collapse, information, and spacetime curvature, QEST provides a fully testable framework linking consciousness, physics, and the rendering of reality.
