DESIGN, SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF QUINAZOLINES AS ANTICONVULSANT AGENTS

ABSTRACT Quinazoline, a bicyclic heterocyclic compound characterized by the fusion of benzene and pyrimidine rings, is recognized as a privileged scaffold in medicinal chemistry owing to its extensive range of pharmacological activities, which encompass anticancer, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, a series of quinazoline derivatives were synthesized through a stepwise synthetic approach that commenced with anthranilic acid. This synthetic pathway included the formation of N-acetyl-2-aminobenzoic acid, quinazolin-4(3H)-one, chloroquinazoline as pivotal intermediates, ultimately leading to the synthesis of 4 (methylamino)quinazoline. The structures of all synthesized compounds were validated through physicochemical and spectral analyses, which included FTIR, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy. and ¹H NMR The final compound exhibited a high yield and distinct spectral characteristics that align with the proposed structure. Initial antibacterial screening indicated significant inhibitory activity, implying potential therapeutic applications. In summary, the synthesized quinazoline derivatives enhance the ongoing investigation of nitrogen containing heterocycles as promising candidates for future drug development.
