D4.2 Report summarising the results of consultations with regional networks

Deliverable 4.2 provides a comprehensive overview of the consultations conducted with various regional networks as part of the EuroGO-SHIP project. The primary objective of these consultations was to gather insights and feedback from stakeholders involved in ocean observing and hydrographic data collection. The consultations were structured in three phases: initial meetings and surveys, in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, and follow-up discussions to refine insights. This multi-faceted approach ensured a broad representation of perspectives from hydrographic communities across different regions. Key findings from these consultations revealed significant challenges in global ocean observing, including the need for improved coordination, standardization of methods, and the establishment of frameworks for findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) data. Moreover, the report identifies strategic actions that can be taken to enhance the effectiveness of the EuroGO-SHIP initiative, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to address the diverse needs of the ocean science community. The insights gained from these consultations will inform the development of a robust research infrastructure concept aimed at advancing European hydrography and fostering sustainable ocean management practices.
