Sight-threatening Dengue Retinitis – A Case Report
Abstract Dengue is a serious public health problem. It can cause serious ocular complications. We present a case of dengue retinitis with retinal vasculitis, successfully treated with systemic corticosteroids. A 50-year female who was serology-confirmed dengue fever came with complaints of sudden painful diminution of vision in the left eye (LE). The right eye (RE) best corrected visual acuity was 6/18 and LE counting fingers. The RE anterior segment was normal, and fundus showed a few cotton wool spots along inferior temporal arcade and the superonasal of macula. The LE anterior segment showed keratic precipitates and 2+ cells in the anterior chamber with a sluggishly reacting pupil. LE fundus showed cells in vitreous, disc edema, dilated veins with perivascular sheathing, cotton wool spots, and macular edema. OCT showed macular oedema in both eyes (BE). The patient was treated with IV methylprednisolone, after which she showed complete resolution of macular oedema with BCVA of 6/9 in BE.
