The Confidence–Inertia Trap: A Unified Framework of Organizational Dysfunction
This paper introduces the Confidence–Inertia Trap, a unified framework explaining systemic organisational dysfunction as a dynamic, self-reinforcing cycle. Synthesising constructs from cognitive bias, systems thinking, organisational psychology, and operations theory, it introduces novel mechanisms such as Adaptive Burden and Responsibility Inversion. The model integrates cultural, structural, and psychological dysfunction into causal loops, supported by diagnostic indicators, cost models, and intervention sequencing. Case studies of CRM and ISO 9001 adoption illustrate practical manifestations. This framework offers a diagnostic lens and prescriptive pathway for breaking cycles of inefficiency and burnout.
