Contribution of Women in Indian Politics till 2025 : A Comprehensive Study

Women have always been an integral part of India’s politicalstory, even if their contributions have not always received therecognition they deserve. From the brave women who stood atthe forefront of the freedom struggle to today’s leaders shapinglaws, policies and public debates, their presence has quietlybut steadily transformed Indian democracy. Whether workingthrough mass movements, grassroots leadership, or nationaldecision-making, women have continually challenged socialboundaries and pushed the country toward greater equality andjustice.Yet, their journey has not been easy. Deeply rooted patriarchy, unequal access to education and resources and limitedopportunities within political parties have slowed their progress.Despite these challenges, the last few decades – especially upto 2025 – show a clear shift. More women are stepping intopolitical roles, voting in large numbers, leading local governmentsand influencing public policies. Still, their representation inParliament remains far below what a true gender-balanceddemocracy demands.
