KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping educational practice, compelling teachers to integrate intelligent technologies into their pedagogical processes. As future educators, prospective teachers must develop Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence to meet the demands of 21st-century classrooms. The present study aims to assess the level of Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence among prospective teachers in Tamil Nadu and to analyze differences based on gender, subject stream, and type of institution. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 100 B.Ed. students through a researcher-constructed Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA. Results revealed a moderate level of Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence among prospective teachers. While awareness and attitudes toward AI were positive, practical and ethical dimensions of AI use were limited. Gender differences were not statistically significant, though science stream trainees exhibited slightly higher Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence. The study emphasizes the urgent need to integrate Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence components into teacher education curricula to ensure that future educators are technologically competent and ethically informed.
