MATHEMATICS ACHIEVEMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL IN AIZAWL WEST CONSTITUENCY, MIZORAM

This study examined the mathematics achievement of secondary school students in the Aizawl West Constituency, Mizoram, focusing on their overall performance levels. A total of 291 students participated and were assessed using the standardized Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT-IAKT), developed by Imam and Khatoon. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the general achievement levels, alongside independent t-tests to identify and examine group differences based on school management type. Results showed that students’ overall mathematics achievement was notably low. When comparing school types, all categories–government, private, and aided–exhibited low achievement levels; however, private schools outperformed both government and aided schools, and government schools performed better than aided schools. These findings reveal distinct patterns of mathematics achievement within the regions, influenced by the type of school management within the constituency.
