Golden-Step Preheating: A Natural UV Cutoff Mechanism Linking Inflation to the Electroweak Scale
I propose a novel mechanism to address the Higgs hierarchy problem based on a time-dependent effective UV cutoff during the multi-stage coherent decay of the inflaton. Resonant backreaction and wave-turbulent cascades segment the inflaton evolution into discrete stages with amplitude ratios following the golden ratio $\phi = (1+\sqrt{5})/2$. This reduces the effective cutoff felt by the Higgs quadratic divergence from $\sim 2 \times 10^{15}\,$GeV to $\sim 3.8 \times 10^{8}\,$GeV before thermalization of the Standard Model sector. The resulting $\delta \mu^2 \sim (3.8 \times 10^8\,\mathrm{GeV})^2$ yields a technically natural electroweak scale without supersymmetry, extra dimensions, or new fields. The mechanism predicts a characteristic multi-peak spectrum in the stochastic gravitational-wave background.
