LIFE SKILL EDUCATION THROUGH GANDHIAN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING AT SEWAGRAM, WARDHA
Abstract `This paper examines the role of Gandhian experiential learning in fostering life skills among learners at Sewagram (Wardha). Rooted in Mahatma Gandhi’s Nai Talim (Basic Education) philosophy, the study analyses how handcraft, community work, moral discourse, and village-based education contribute to developing critical life skills such as communication, cooperation, problem-solving, empathy, self-reliance, and civic responsibility. Using a qualitative case study approach—drawing on historical sources, institutional documents of Sewagram Ashram schools, interviews with 25 teachers, headmasters and 10 alumni and 50 students/ learners and reflective observation—the paper proposes a practical model for integrating Gandhian experiential methods into contemporary life skill curricula. Keywords: Gandhian pedagogy, experiential learning, life skills, Sewagram, basic education, value education, community-based learning.
