Unified Analysis of the Voynich Manuscript and Codex Gigas
This paper develops a unified harmonic framework for analyzing the Voynich Manuscript and the Codex Gigas as structural and geometric objects rather than as linguistic puzzles. Instead of attempting translation or speculative narrative, it focuses on extracting structural invariants that remain stable across changes of interpretation, discipline, or domain. Using a presence–absence field formalism, each page is modeled as a bounded domain equipped with symbolic density fields, from which micro- and macro-scale patterns are derived. The work introduces an axiomatic system for “harmonic codices,” defines local and global recursion operators, and formalizes dual-surface harmonic organization, distinguishing symbol-dominant and absence-dominant regions. Within this framework, the Voynich Manuscript is treated as a micro-harmonic recursion codex (maximizing local generativity and fine-grained structural cycling), while the Codex Gigas appears as a macro-harmonic shadow-containment codex (emphasizing large-scale layout, boundary, and shadow fields). Their relationship is expressed as a micro–macro dual pair embedded in a common harmonic substrate, with proof-pack sections establishing invariants under symbol relabelling and coarse-graining. The paper concludes by outlining philosophical implications of treating complex manuscripts as harmonic field objects, and suggests that the same method can be extended to other codices, diagrams, and symbolic systems where recursion, presence–absence structure, and dual-surface organization are present.
