THE CARDIOVASCULAR IMPLICATIONS OF SCREEN TIME AND SEDENTARY LIFESTYLES IN ADOLESCENTS: A REVIEW OF EMERGING EVIDENCE

As screen time becomes a dominant part of adolescent life, concerns are growing about its effects on cardiovascular health. This paper investigates the relationship between screen time, sedentary behavior, and cardiovascular risk in adolescents. This paper also examines the impact of high screen use and physical inactivity, both independently and in combination, which have a significant effect on blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, and metabolic health. The findings support the hypothesis that adolescents who use screens for more than eight hours and take fewer than 6,000 steps daily face a higher risk. These results have significant implications for public health strategies that promote physical activity and aim to reduce recreational screen time among adolescents.
