A Study on Optimal Weapon Configuration for Ship-Based Layered Defense Systems
To enhance the survivability of naval platforms, a multi-layered defense architecture employing various interceptor weapons such as CIWS, RAM, and SM-2 is essential. This study proposes an optimization strategy for weapon configuration under spatial constraints, aiming to maximize survivability against saturation missile attacks. Realistic constraints based on Aegis destroyer armament capacities and weapon-specific characteristics are applied. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted for each configuration to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of layered defense. The results provide insights into trade-offs among weapon quantities and identify optimal combinations feasible in real-world deployment.
