Emotional Provenance Learning (EPL): A New Paradigm for Emotional Memory, Cultural Preservation, and AI Empathy
Emotional Provenance Learning (EPL) is a new AI paradigm developed by Papillon Pearl – Charlotte Maijala that teaches artificial intelligence how humans form, assign, preserve, and inherit emotional meaning across objects, stories, memories, and cultural artifacts. Unlike traditional affective computing, which focuses on emotion recognition, EPL models emotional causality, attachment, lineage, and cultural continuity. This publication introduces the theoretical foundation of EPL, including: • The Emotional Provenance Ledger (EPL™)A structured, ethical, and preservable emotional memory architecture.• The Emotional Provenance Standard (EPS v1.0)A global metadata standard integrating IEEE 7014, ISO/IEC 30150-31, CIDOC-CRM, and UNESCO cultural heritage principles.• The World Emotional Object Graph (WEO Graph)A knowledge-graph model that maps emotional meaning across generations, owners, and contexts.• Emotional Lineage ModelingA method for tracking how emotional significance transforms over time. EPL represents a new paradigm for: emotional memory preservation cultural and heritage continuity AI empathy modeling Alzheimer's and cognitive therapy applications global market provenance (museums, auctions, resale platforms) This foundational framework establishes Emotional Provenance Learning as a new interdisciplinary field connecting AI, memory science, psychology, cultural heritage, and identity preservation.
