Degradation kinetics of biodegradable chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, and zinc oxide hydrogel for the amoxicillin drug delivery application
Biodegradable polymer hydrogels and scaffolds are the prime requirements in surgical associate applications. This helps in self-degradation of the polymer hydrogel over time and a further surgery is not required which saves the patient from surgical trauma and pain. In this context, the present study is an endeavour to understand the swelling behaviour, porosity, drug loading, drug release profile and degradation kinetics of the zinc functionalized hydrogel. The prepared CS/PVA/ZnO hydrogel had highest swelling efficiency in PBS (2003 %), high porosity (83.02 %), high drug loading (85.14 %), slow drug release (43.13 %), and high degradation rate (80.15 %). The study results demonstrated the CS/PVA/ZnO hydrogel biomaterial for drug delivery applications and it can use further studies and applications.
