Bilateral congenital ankyloblepharon in a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) : Diagnosis and surgical treatment
Abstract Ankyloblepharon is defined as the adhesion of the upper and lower eyelid margins. In the present case, a cockatiel was diagnosed with congenital bilateral ankyloblepharon, with no history of illness or trauma. Upon clinical examination, complete adhesion of the upper and lower eyelids was observed in the bird's right eye, while partial adhesion was noted in the left eye. A diagnosis of bilateral congenital ankyloblepharon was made based on clinical features. Surgical reconstruction was performed on the right eyelid, and the left palpebral fissure was lengthened using microsurgical techniques. In conclusion, a cockatiel with ankyloblepharon was successfully treated with surgical reconstruction of the eyelids, resulting in restored vision.
