RISK IDENTIFICATION TECHNIQUES AND AIRCRAFT PASSENGERS' ACCESSIBILITY AMONG SELECTED AIRLINERS IN MURTALA MOHAMMED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, LAGOS, NIGERIA
The study focused on ascertaining whether or not, there is a rank order effect of risk identification techniques, and examined the effects of risk identification techniques on aircraft passengers’ accessibility among selected Airliners in Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos state. It employed survey design, and Cochran sampling size determination method was employed to select 384 respondents from the target population. Copies of these questionnaire were distributed equally to the four selected airlines with ninety-six (96) copies per airline. Out of three hundred and eighty-four (384) copies administered, three hundred and twenty-five (325) were returned. Both descriptive (tables, means and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (analysis of variance, multinomial regression and Friedman test) were utilized to analyse the hypotheses. The study revealed a positive relationship between risk identification techniques and aircraft passengers’ accessibility among airliners. The result also shows the variations experienced by the dependent variable that could be explained by the independent variable (R square) which shows that risk identification techniques are responsible for about 0.1 percent of variance in aircraft passengers’ accessibility. This means that 99.0 percent of the aircraft passengers’ accessibility enjoyed among selected airliners in Lagos State comes from other factors other than the predictor used in this model (risk identification techniques). The study concluded that there is a positive relationship between risk identification techniques and aircraft passengers’ accessibility among airliners. To this end, it recommended a unified safety and accessibility risk register that can build one central living register that tracks hazards, causes, controls, and residual risk for both flight/ground ops and passenger accessibility issue. Also, risk control mechanisms should be designed by airport authority by using heat maps of turnarounds to identify periods with high towing/collision risk and high passenger congestion amongst others.
